Chapter 13 - Last Days in Stockholm: Royal Decor, Swedish Style

June 21

To start this day, I took some shots of our elegant hotel, the view from our room...
...the entrance...
 the elevator...
 and the stairwell.
Then off we went to see the the Royal Palace. What a trove!
There were outfits...for state visits...
 And weddings.
 There were sculptures....
And the kind of decor fit for royalty....just go up the stairs....
A special place to sit. Not just one...
A great hall with amazing details...
How about an intimate dinner?
Or a business meeting?
There were the expected beautiful objects...including a collection of items made from amber...No pictures of the royal jewels were allowed - darn!
A crown, one of the beautiful clocks and a work of art stove.
What was totally unexpected was a modern palace room! Check this out!
It was a fitting display of Swedish design...
With even a very contemporary set of royal portraits.
Then it was on to lunch with one of the people in Lester's book. We got to eat again at the great restaurant along the water (the one with the boat hanging inside). This is the outside.
The morning palace was just a warm-up for our afternoon boat trip to Drottningholm Palace, the private residence of the Swedish royal family, again on yet another island.

The boat left from a dock near the very modern City Hall.
The Palace is spectacular as you come up to it by water.
The rooms are majestic. A bedroom...

The library...
The details....

This palace is also known for its formal gardens.

Our last day we spent shopping - due to the holiday it was the only day most stores were open. We had been reminded of that the night before by this sign in a shop window.
However, we had our last two dinners in gamla stan, a lovely island that is one of the oldest parts of the city. These pics should give you a sense.

The restaurants there were as quaint as the streets. This was our favorite.
On the way back from our last dinner, we took some twilight shots of this lovely city.
We had to stay at the airport our last night as we had an early flight home. We caught the sunset at the airport at around 11 PM!

We hope you enjoyed the story of our trip. Let us know.
